The Art of Deb Mell

For years I have been telling stories through my art -- stories passed onto me
by my grandfather.   He told these stories to me while sitting by his side constructing boats and animal traps.  He would say we were natural collectors and builders. He believed we could make "anything out of anything" we found.  I wanted these stories to be as vivid for my children as they were for me -- and so I decided to make a visual history of my past for them.

In my art today it is his philosophy that I follow -- use “anything found” to create something new.
